Golden hour engagement photos are some of my favorites to shoot, so I really loved this session with Emily and Mike in the White Mountains! These two were so much fun, and we had the perfect June evening for their glowy golden hour shoot among the mountains and wildflowers.

I’m excited to share their session today, as well as some tips for planning your own engagement session like this!

Golden Hour Engagement Photos Among the Wildflowers

Emily and Mike knew they wanted to do their engagement session in the White Mountains (my favorite place of all time, as you might know!), so I was super excited for their shoot.

While the White Mountains in June are mostly known for all of the lupine fields, they’re actually filled with a huge variety of gorgeous wildflowers throughout the late spring and early summer. So for Emily and Mike’s session in early June, we wound up finding a stunning field of yellow wildflowers that were completely glowing in the golden hour light. We had so much fun exploring, and E + M were able to relax and be themselves, leading to some really romantic images.

Earlier in the session, we also did a short hike while the sun was a little higher in the sky and got some beautiful sun-filled photos on a rocky ledge with a gorgeous mountain view. These photos are a nice contrast to the softer images in the field!

A note on planning your wildflower engagement photos

Wildflower season in the White Mountains goes quickly, and I find that a lot of couples reach out once that window has already passed, unfortunately. So if a wildflower session is something you’ve been hoping for, I recommend reaching out by April to schedule something in June. The rest of the summer in northern New Hampshire tends to be tall, tall grass. Which is still beautiful, but a very different look!

Why Timing Is Everything for Golden Hour Engagement Photos

The time of day of your engagement session really determines the vibe of the shoot and the overall feel of your gallery. So here's what you can expect depending on the time of your session:

Golden Hour

Golden hour, the hour or so before sunset, gives you that warm, golden light that makes everything feel super glowy. If you want photos that feel dreamy like this, plan for a golden hour session!

Midday Sessions

If you’re looking for more true-to-color images with a bright sunny feel, then a midday session is perfect.

After Sunset

If you’re hoping for more dark, flash photography vibes for your session, then we’ll want to do something after sunset!

Personally, golden hour is my favorite time to shoot for the warm tones and intimate feel of the photos. Emily and Mike’s session was a perfect example of this!
