The Barn at Powder Major’s Farm is a great venue, and I was really excited to get to photograph Brenna and Mike’s beautiful November wedding there.
As a New Hampshire wedding photographer, I’ve had the chance to see so many amazing venues around the state, and this one is quickly becoming a favorite! Brenna and Mike’s entire day was amazing from start to finish, so I’m really excited to share it here today.

A Beautiful November Wedding at The Barn at Powder Major’s Farm
The day began with Brenna and Mike getting ready onsite – Brenna in the farmhouse with the ladies and Mike in another house on the property. It’s always a nice perk when a venue has dedicated getting-ready spaces, so you don’t have to worry about the logistics of traveling back and forth!
From there, the two of them shared a really special first-look, where they exchanged private vows. I always love this moment, especially when couples opt to do private vows, because it’s such a nice time for you to enjoy each other's company and calm your nerves before everything kicks off.

They had a beautiful outdoor ceremony, and even though it was mid-November, Brenna and Mike had cozy blankets out for all of their guests. The fall afternoon light during their ceremony was absolutely gorgeous, and then we were treated to an amazing golden hour and sunset for portraits! This is by far my favorite time during any wedding day – I love capturing the two of you in the glow of the setting sun. There’s something extra romantic about those images!
Brenna looked stunning in her off-the-shoulder gown, and her floral palette was a beautiful, unique take on fall tones, with soft peaches and even a touch of blue. It was all SO pretty! They also had a fun vintage-style cutting cake alongside lots of other yummy desserts.
The rest of the evening was an absolute blast, and they had a few playful twists throughout that were uniquely them! Brenna and Mike have the best sense of humor, and included a photo of Steve Irwin in their memory wall. If you’re a millennial, then you know! 😂It was such a fun detail that gave everyone a good laugh.
Overall, Brenna and Mike’s day was a truly beautiful wedding with so much heart.

About The Barn at Powder Major’s Farm
If you’re not familiar with The Barn at Powder Major’s Farm, it’s a historic property located in Madbury, NH. It’s really conveniently located for a barn venue–easily accessible from the seacoast and only about a 90-minute drive from Boston. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something a little more south than the Lakes Region or White Mountains.
The property’s main feature is the original, beautiful post-and-beam barn that has been restored using reclaimed wood. Off the barn is a patio surrounded by an antique granite stone wall, which is a great space for your ceremony and/or cocktail hour.
The views are quintessential New Hampshire, with gorgeous fields and forests surrounding the barn. And the drive up to the property is almost movie-like, with a gravel drive lined with trees. It’s so idyllic. My favorite thing about the property, though, is the sunsets–they’re incredible!
The venue also has a neat history. The original barn and farmhouse were built in 1723, and the original owner, John “Powder Major” DeMerritt, played a role in the Revolutionary War. He was one of the patriots who participated in the raid on Fort William and Mary, seizing British ammunition that was later used in the Battle of Bunker Hill. New Hampshire Chronicle even did a segment on the property and its history! The current owners are fourth-generation owners who are very passionate about historic preservation and sustainability.
The Barn at Powder Major’s Farm has a ton of great amenities for your wedding, too.
There’s the classic rustic barn for your reception, an indoor ceremony space in case of rain, getting-ready spaces right on-site, and something your guests will appreciate–real restrooms (so no restroom trailer needed!). The property is now officially a nature preserve, so guests are welcome to roam and explore, which is a nice bonus.
